‘mycerium’— Solo Exhibition by Johnny Akihito Noda

‘mycerium’ is a solo exhibition presented by Quiet Gallery showcasing a series of paintings by Nagoya-based artist, Johnny Akihito Noda.

Revolving around ‘MYCE’, the cartoon mouse created by Noda who lives in an enchanted forest, the exhibition takes us into the world of MYCE and his friends as they eat mysterious mushrooms and embark on psychedelic journeys in this magical kingdom.

Born in Nagoya, Noda first became interested in low-brow art in his hometown before making a pilgrimage to California, the genre’s birthplace, eventually moving to San Francisco in 2011. Returning to Japan five years later, the artist established his studio ‘Weird Collections’, presenting the quirky characters he creates through his signature use of colour and unique draughtsmanship.

Alongside his new works, Noda also worked with a partner to transform his characters into exquisitely hand-crafted rugs. Each one-of-a-kind and collectible, they will be available for purchase during the exhibition period alongside vinyl toys, silkscreen prints and a limited-edition ‘mycerium’ t-shirt launched in collaboration with Vans.
