‘GALAXY HAPPY’ — Solo Exhibition by Aico Tsumori

‘Galaxy Happy’, the first solo show of Japanese contemporary ceramic artist Aico Tsumori presented by Quiet Gallery in Hong Kong. Exhibiting around 30 ceramic pieces that span different periods of her career, the exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in her aesthetic universe in its entirety.

Inspired by her own childhood memories alongside her current experiences as a mother, the exhibition highlights the inseparable bond between mother and daughter. The paintings of Tsumori’s daughter, which served as the source of inspiration behind some of her sculptures, will also be showcased, giving the audience a deeper understanding of the story behind the artworks.

With a focus on human and animal figures, Tsumori’s sculptures are noted for their fanciful depictions and use of traditional Japanese elements. Infused with imagination, they are portrayed using bright and vivid tones that make them seem almost child-like in their appearance.

Aico Tusmori was born in 1979, in Shiga Prefecture Japan. After graduating from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2002, she immediately won an award at the Female Ceramic Art Competition in 2003. Since then, her work has continuously gained recognition and has been exhibited extensively in Japan and abroad.
