BELOWGROUND, in collaboration with LANDMARK and GALLERY TARGET, is delighted to announce the launch of Ayako Rokkaku’s monumental Hong Kong solo debut installation “THE ISLAND – ONIGASHIMA”.
Ayako Rokkaku is celebrated for her spontaneous, finger-painted works that blend manga influences with vibrant, emotive colour fields. Her signature stylised wide-eyed girls in multicoloured landscapes have earned global acclaim, including the Illustration Prize at Takashi Murakami’s Geisai art fair.
Inspired by the mythical Onigashima and the shared island geography of Hong Kong and Japan, the 6-metre-tall installation transforms the LANDMARK Atrium into an interactive tactile dreamscape of soft forms, inviting visitors to touch, feel and repose. It features a tunnel housing 12 wooden sculptures surrounded by 11 paintings.

The BELOWGROUND pop-up showcases 9 original artworks, exclusive limited editions and bespoke merchandise including tote bags, apparel, books, scarves and a lamp collaboration with AllRightsReserved.
‘THE ISLAND – ONIGASHIMA’ is on show at LANDMARK Atrium and BELOWGROUND from now to 17 April 2026.
